How To Maximise Views on Short Form Content
The 2 Second Rule
It’s true that apps like TikTok and Instagram have strange algorithms that are difficult to decipher, so it’s often difficult to predict which videos will do well.
But there are patterns that can be found in the well-performing videos in the world of MedEd, HealthTech, and Healthcare. And in general for that matter.
Sit down at the end of each month and work out which videos are doing best in terms of views and comments.
Ask yourself - “What was different about these videos?”
Was the topic of the video particular emotive? Interesting? Insightful?
Did you try something new with the editing?
The difference is often in the first two seconds of the video. This is when people will decide whether they are scrolling past, or watching the rest of your video.
What did you do differently that worked?
So, in your videos that performed well, what did you do in the first 2 seconds of the video?
What did you do that was particularly attention grabbing?
If we ignore variables like trends, maybe you added more aesthetic captions, or added some new editing that you don’t usually add. The smallest of changes can be responsible for the video being more shareable, attention-grabbing, and engaging.

Ways You Can Improve Your Reels and Shorts
Use a prop, or interesting edit which grabs people’s attention. Incorporate visually appealing elements or surprising moments to pique curiosity. And remember - do this early.
Be concise with your intro. Keep your introductions short and to the point. Get straight to the main idea or hook of your content to captivate viewers from the start.
Use your hands when listing things like (5 things that… etc) - be more dynamic!
When presenting lists or sharing information, use your hands or body language to add dynamism and make it more visually engaging. Be expressive and energetic to keep viewers interested.
Be energetic and enthusiastic! If you look like you’re only creating content because someone like me told to you, it’s obvious! Show genuine enthusiasm and passion for what you're sharing. If you appear genuinely excited and interested in your content, it will be more engaging for viewers. Avoid coming across as disinterested or forced.

What Not To Do
Avoid having silence in the first 2 seconds. People will scroll past. Catch viewers' attention right from the start by avoiding silence in the opening moments. Use captivating visuals, music, or a brief engaging statement to hook viewers and prevent them from scrolling past.
Avoid speaking a low-volume, or having a poor edit which makes your content look less professional. Ensure your content has clear audio and high-quality editing. Poor audio or sloppy edits can make your content appear less professional and may discourage viewers from watching further.
Avoid looking away from the camera. Maintain eye contact with the camera as much as possible. Looking away or being distracted can make your content feel less engaging and may disconnect viewers from the message that you're trying to convey.
The Take Home
Creating compelling and effective Reels and Shorts requires attention to detail and a solid understanding of what works and what doesn't. To improve your content, ensure you are being energetic, animated, and spend some time learning how to make visually appealing captions and edits. The first 2 seconds of the reel or short is the most important - grab the viewers attention with your body language, volume and tonality.
Keep up with trends and keyword analysis, the world of MedEd, HealthTech and Healthcare is dynamic and constantly changing, it’s important to know what is going to do well as best as possible.
